Love. Of self.
You have all these grand plans: great things to achieve, business empires to run, taking care of those you love, changing the world somewhere along the way... But for some reason, you keep running up against a wall, a glass ceiling. Call it what you want, it's in your way.
There's only so much you can give and achieve without taking good care of yourself. Right now, I am not talking about eating well, exercising and getting enough sleep. I am talking about giving yourself the love and affection you deserve.
You know that you are most likely too hard on yourself. Take a minute to consider the inner dialogue that you have with your self every single day.
THE INNER CRITIC
Do you tell yourself off for every little thing: you spill something, run late for an appointment, forget to buy milk for breakfast, etc etc? Would you speak like that to other people? Maybe... Would you say those things to a child? Nope, I didn't think so.
There are so many ideals (no matter how skewed) to live up to, and so we 'fail' on a daily basis.
If you are from around these parts (the British Isles and around) and over ten years of age, chances are you've been told to 'man up' and 'soldier on' since... well, always.
Under the pretences of perfectionism we beat ourselves up. I say:
Nobody's perfect and that's fine. Perfection is not the goal. Perfection is boring. It's an affliction to steer clear of. So silence your inner critic and try acceptance and a little self-love instead.
Accepting yourself is not the same as letting yourself off the hook. You are still going to try hard to be the best version of yourself, you are still going to man up and soldier on; but you are going to do it with love. Of self.
and what better time to start cultivating a new habit. So go on,
give yourself the love and affection you deserve and watch yourself conquer the world!
THREE THINGS TO TRY:
♥ Take 5 minutes for yourself every morning. To meditate, drink tea, watch the world go by, whatever rocks your boat!
♥ Practice savasana as often and for as long as you can. Translation: lie down on your back, forget about the world, just be and enjoy it!
♥ Give yourself a compliment whenever you see yourself in a mirror. No, it's not vain, it's self-loving. And no one needs to know about it anyway!
